Statements
Marks left on the edges of bookblocks by the sharp metal blades of the tools (e.g. draw-knife, plough, etc.) used to cut them. The most carefully cut edges seldom leave blade marks, but the quicker the work and the blunter the blade, the more obvious the marks will be.
