Posteriormente, no século V a cidade é nomeada capital Sueva (Ribeiro 2008:290). Já entre os séculos VIII - XI, a cidade vai testemunhar acontecimentos relatos em fontes históricas, mas de difícil confirmação arqueológica, isto é, da "dominação suevo-visigótica, a invasão muçulmana ou os processos associados à Reconquista Cristã, que terão determinado o abandono de uma área significativa da anterior cidade e uma concentração da população no quadrante NE da mesma." (Ribeiro, 2008).
