A quarter lining may be cut to the height of or shorter than the boards, or be turned-in at head and tail. On an inboard binding, a quarter lining might perhaps be thought of as a primary cover, but as they are never found without some sort of cover over them, and are often found without turn-ins and even cut short of the full height of the boards, it is more logical to think of them as a lining to the cover, hence the term 'quarter lining'. Quarter linings of paper were frequently used on British paper-covered inboard publishers' or edition bindings of the last quarter of the eighteenth century and beginning of the nineteenth. A similar component was also used as a spine piece on some of the British versions of German three-piece cases of the second and third decades of the nineteenth century and may also be found on the earliest bindings covered in bookcloth in the 1820s.","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},"type":"statement","id":"Q1092$85C2D3F5-A256-4931-8855-3954C28073C9","rank":"normal"}],"P533":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P533","hash":"5800cf9220906e8c6b1dfcd5462d1a07b32a323f","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":755,"id":"Q755"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q1092$58CB4E66-DDFB-4512-A1ED-877651565D90","rank":"normal"}],"P519":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P519","hash":"432761a0af2528bb8b895a8245d69f40b882653c","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":242,"id":"Q242"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q1092$08A8C5E4-D0DB-483D-896D-BAA3C467510E","rank":"normal"}]},"sitelinks":{}}}}
